Agan (Xiaogang Xiang) is an electronic music composer, sound designer, and producer.AGAN(向晓刚)从事电子音乐创作、声音设计与制作。

In performance, pen pressure on a drawing tablet, a game-controller stick, and a motion-sensor gesture become interfaces for real-time spectral processing systems built in Max/MSP. The same data drives both sound and image: not illustration, but two outlets of one signal.在现场演出中,数位板上的笔压、游戏手柄的摇杆,以及体感设备捕捉到的动作,都会成为 Max/MSP 实时频谱处理系统的输入界面。声音与画面由同一组数据共同驱动——画面不是声音的附图,而是同一信号向外展开的两种结果。

His work has been presented at NYCEMF, the National SEAMUS Conference, MOXsonic, and Musicacoustica-Beijing. His live electronic pieces grow out of an ongoing practice of turning hardware built for other purposes into instruments. Call of Wilderness (2025), for Wacom tablet and live electronics, was selected for the 2026 New York City Electroacoustic Music Festival. Call of Mongolia (2024) is driven by a Game-Trak motion controller. The Impression of Jiazhou (2022), for alto saxophone, PS5 controller, and Max/MSP, premiered at Auer Hall at the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, where the controller's joysticks generate spectral data in real time while the saxophone's amplitude envelope drives a spectral saturation module. The Collision of Colors (2021), an eight-channel work, also premiered at Auer Hall; Mirror Image (2018) has been performed in Taipei and at Goodwin Recital Hall at the Peabody Institute. Mianeow received an Excellence Award at the 2023 Shanghai International Electronic Music Competition, Seeker an Excellence Award in the video category at Musicacoustica Beijing in 2016, and Psilocybin, for cello and accordion, Second Prize at the Second Yingwu Cup Chinese Accordion Composition Competition.在创作奖项方面,《Mianeow》获 2023 年上海国际电子音乐比赛作曲优秀奖;《Seeker》获 2016 年北京国际电子音乐节(Musicacoustica)视频组优秀奖;为大提琴与手风琴而作的《Psilocybin》获第二届“莺舞杯”中国手风琴作曲比赛二等奖。

He trained in composition at the Middle School Attached to the Central Conservatory of Music, earned his Bachelor of Music in Computer Music at the Peabody Institute with Geoffrey Wright, and his Master of Music in Computer Music Composition at Indiana University with John Gibson. He also studied data-driven instrument composition with Jeffery Stolet at the University of Oregon. He is currently a doctoral candidate at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, studying with Kerry Hagan and Eli Fieldsteel. Alongside his concert work, he served as producer, mix engineer, and mastering engineer on the single 142857, written, composed, and arranged by AVA.
