Overview
Mianeow is an 8-minute-40-second fixed-media work. It takes its title from the composer's cat, Mian, and the sound of “meow.” The work imagines three everyday scenarios: conversation, play, and eating. Live recordings of meows, scratching, yells, toys, crunching, slurping, and guzzling are transformed into a portrait of an animal whose language remains partly unknowable.
Sound materials
The work uses vector delay, spectral filtering, pitch shifting, buffer shuffle, reverb, grain delay, echo, spectral harmonizer, spectral resonator, and modulation. All audio materials are live recordings.
