Overview
ECHOES FROM THE ABYSS is a 10-minute work for flute and live electronics. Drawing from Norse mythology, the piece follows a passage from a formless darkness through destructive awakening and primal fury toward quiet extinction.
Program
Sounds first drift without direction, searching through darkness for something to hold onto. An ancient force then awakens below the surface, growling and clawing upward with violent energy. After the storm, the flute carries a melody like fading memory: what once burned hot cools to ash, and everything that roared becomes a whisper before dissolving into silence.
Technical note
The electronics are stereophonic. One microphone is required for the flute, with the signal divided into two paths: the dry flute sound is amplified while the live electronics from Max/MSP are diffused alongside it. The composer provides an SSL 2+ audio interface, so no additional audio interface is required.

声音最初没有方向地漂浮，在黑暗中寻找可以依附的形体。随后，一股古老的力量从深处苏醒，带着咆哮与撕裂感向上涌动。风暴过后，长笛带出一段如同褪色记忆的旋律：曾经炽热燃烧的一切逐渐冷却成灰，所有咆哮最终化为低语，并消散在寂静之中。
技术说明
电子部分为立体声系统。长笛需要一支麦克风，信号分为两路：一路放大长笛的干声，另一路将 Max/MSP 生成的现场电子与干声共同扩散。作曲者自备 SSL 2+ 声卡，因此不需要额外的音频接口。
